Has anyone ever been to Morocco for a vacation?

What was it like? And what did it offer you as a tourist? Whats are some things I should remember when over there?

Spent two weeks at Christmas in Agadire, and i was a woman traveling with two teenagers.
I was really nervous about what it would be like on my own however it was fine, i felt really looked after, especially at the hotel, all the staff just called me mama.
The beach was lovely and stretched out for miles and miles, the Arabic writing that lights up in the side of the rocks at night is a magnificent sight.
The food was surprisingly nice and a very wide variety, but you’ve also got your Pizza hut and McDonald’s if you want them.
It is really cheap out and about and the shopping for your designer handbags,(no-one guessed ours where fake) Leather and silk everywhere..If i could have brought back some of the magnificent hand crafted furniture, i would have.
To be honest, i didn’t get pestered much, i found that if you went round the shops in the afternoon, they didn’t bother you as they where usually eating or having a siesta.
We loved the whole experience of a new culture and picking up little Arabic other than your usual french or Spanish.
I hope you will enjoy yourself, just remember to cover up a little when your out and about and you should be OK, a firm no thank you and carry on walking usually works.
Don’t know where you are traveling from but you can not buy the currency outside the country. i would also take US dollars if you are British as you will get a better rate of exchange.
Hope this helps, happy holidays.

  • I lived there for 6 months, so I wasn’t really a tourist. I loved the scenery, the architecture, the culture and the customs. You should try to dress modestly, respect the culture and religion, always carry small money and tissue, wear comfortable shoes and take sunscreen.

  • i went there for two weeks with my dad this past december. we went to casablanca, rabat, meknes, fes, and then marrakech. if you have visited the middle east before, and to somewhere busy like cairo, then i would suggest you fly into marrakech and then travel around from there. however if this your first time i would suggest the route i took since you can ease into the hustle and bustle and get used to things before getting to marrakech. it is easy to get around if you speak french and no arabic, or some arabic but will be difficult if you only speak english. in terms of tourist attraction- it is a very interesting conglomeration of arab, french, berber, and north african culture. the guys are hot :-P . there is a lot to see in terms of medieval cities and traditional living, especially in fes. if you are pressed for time i would suggest flying into marrakech, checking out fes and casablanca. we didnt get to the Tangiers or the Sahara, but since Tangiers seems very touristy I would suggest choosing southern morocco over the Tangiers.
